Core Courses
- NCAA Division I requires 16 core courses. See the chart below for the breakdown of this 16 core-course requirement.
- NCAA Division II requires 16 core courses. See the chart below for the breakdown of the core-course requirement.
Test Scores
- The SAT/ACT scores are no longer used for NCAA eligibility as of January 2023, however testing still may be required for admission to select universities. Make sure to do your research to figure out whether or not you will need to take it!
Grade-Point Average
- Only core courses are used in the calculation of the grade-point average.
- Be sure to look at the list of NCAA-approved courses on the Eligibility Center’s website to make certain that courses being taken have been approved as core courses. www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.
- The Division I grade-point-average requirement is a minimum of 2.3.
- The Division II grade-point-average requirement is a minimum of 2.2.

Students enrolling at a NCAA Division I or II institution for the first time need to also complete the amateurism questionnaire through the Eligibility Center website. Students need to request final amateurism certification prior to enrollment.
Early Academic Qualifiers
If you meet specific criteria after six semesters of high school, you may be deemed an early academic qualifier for Division I or II and may practice, compete and receive an athletics scholarship during your first year of full-time enrollment.
Academic Redshirt
You may practice during your first regular academic term and receive an athletics scholarship during your first year of full-time enrollment but may NOT compete during your first year of full-time enrollment. You must pass either eight quarter or nine semester hours to practice in the next term.
Non Qualifiers
You will not be able to practice, compete or receive an athletics scholarship during your first year of full-time enrollment.
Partial Qualifier (Only Applies to DII Schools)
You may practice and receive an athletics scholarship but may NOT compete during your first year of full-time enrollment.
